Number of signatures and statistics for the petition

The Petition received 1,823 signatures each. 21. October 2009.
Have 1308 On Line Signatures and 515 paper signatures.

As can be seen in the enclosed statistics (in Danish), people distributed geographically across the country with heavy weighting in West Jutland. There are also signatures from abroad, where Germany and England are also well represented.

Statistics show that there are both large national and international interest in The St George Stranding Museum. Apart from the name list, I can see that there are at least:

  • 36 museum staff, several of whom are heads or former heads of museums in Denmark.
  • 17 marine archaeologists or people working on the same topics.
  • 10 maritime historians / writers.
In addition, several artists and politicians and other leading persons.

Thus the signatures of one of Denmark's largest Curators within the museum world, namely, Ole Crumlin-Pedersen, who was in charge of the excavation of the Viking ships in Roskilde Fjord, and who later was head of the Viking Ship Museum and leader of the National Historical Museum Ship Laboratory. He was later head of the National Museum of Marine Archaeological Research Centre.

From abroad, we have one of Sweden's most important marine archaeologists, Bert Westberg, who for many years stood for marine archaeology in Sweden Sjöehistoriska (Marine) Museum in Stockholm.

The early UK Defence Attaché in Denmark Commander Andrew Gordon-Lennox, Commander Andrew Gordon-Lennox has played an important role in stranding Museum in England through the years.

There is also an unequivocal statement of support from the highly influential "The Nelson Society, http://www.nelson-society.com/ supporting stranding museum's autonomy 100%. This self is a very important historical research organization in English speaking world.

It's also a very clear statement of support from the major British "The 1805 Club http://www.1805club.org/

Overall, the support of many and respected marine archaeologists, maritime historians and interested organizations in both Denmark and abroad to confirm our view that there are significant museum professional reasons for the “ Stranding Museum St. George "should be a Danish nationally recognized museum with special significance in connection with the performance of a special museum professional specialty.

If there is support from council in Holstebro municipality, there should be no doubt that the stranding museum has the potential to apply for recognition as an independent nationally recognized museum in accordance Museum Act § 15 & § 16 museums.
